linux - Installing a oracle forms development machine -

after working oracle databases , apex many years, want knowledge oracle forms & reports, because still quite used.

i've never seen oracle forms & reports, want create development installation learning purposes. unfortunately installing oracle forms seems bit more tedious expected , i'm bit stuck.

windows installation

i first tried installing oracle 12c (from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/downloads/index.html) on windows 7 x64. installed "standalone forms builder", because when chose "forms , reports deployment", got error:

after installation tried start frmbld.exe, got error:

frm-91135: fatal error: message file d:\oracle\client\user123\product\12.1.0\client_1\forms\mesg\fmcus.msb not found

my oracle client installed in directory, mentioned file certainty not there.

linux installation

googling around did not find solution problem, decided switch linux virtual box machine. installed oracle linux x64 , installed download same page again.

once more choose "standalone forms builder", when chose "forms , reports deployment" got same error on windows. installation ran successful.

after installation tried start formbuilder, time presented error:

./frmbld: error while loading shared libraries: libxm.so.3: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory

so i'm bit stuck. questions are:

  • am going right way way i'm trying install oracle forms? or there better / easier way?
  • do need "forms , reports deployment" able experiment oracle forms? or standalone installation right way go?
  • are there pre-installed virtual machines available this? (i googled couldn't find anything.)
  • do need running oracle database able experiment oracle forms?

linux installation:

yes going correct path installing forms/reports. there no easier install method (oracle not have prebuilt vm forms/reports).

you require oracle database connect to.

to fix linux error need install additional os packages, motif - can run (to find packages required): yum whatprovides libxm*

i have installed forms builder 12c (standalone install) on fedora , working correctly.

the windows error might related os path env - if have other oracle products installed, path order may need changed, put forms related paths @ beginning.
